Price Chopper and WNYT News Channel 13, Albany today announced the results of a three week effort to raise funds from Capital Region residents to assist the Red Cross of Northeastern New York’s Haitian relief efforts. The three week campaign raised $212,377 to help bring emergency food and medical supplies to the earthquake ravaged nation.
Price Chopper offered to match the first $50,000 raised by the community which was quickly achieved through individual donations and Price Chopper’s “pin up” campaign where customers were able to purchase pin ups to show their support for the campaign. Buoyed by the publicity of media partner, WNYT News Channel 13, Albany, the campaign quickly raised monies beyond initial expectations.
“The Capital Region community has really responded to this call for help for the Haitian people,” said Mona Golub, Price Chopper’s Vice President of Public Relations and Consumer Services. “After we surpassed our initial goals, we challenged ourselves and our customers to raise $200,000 and we did it.”
"The Capital Region has always been incredibly generous in times of need, and that´s been proven once again with Your Help Counts: Haiti. This is another example of the great partnership we share with Price Chopper and the Red Cross. When a natural disaster strikes, the Golub family can always be counted on to do more than their share, and we at WNYT NewsChannel 13 are proud to be a part of this effort,” said Steve Baboulis, Vice President and General Manger of WNYT News Channel 13, Albany.
“The response from this campaign has been nothing short of amazing. Once again, the people of the Capital Region – and especially, Price Chopper and WNYT News Channel 13 – have stepped up to help those in the most unfortunate circumstances,” said Matt Duddy, Board Chair of Red Cross of Northeastern New York.
